You can read about Nikki Glaser, our headliner this month, and Mike Lebovitz, one of the feature comics below. In the meantime, read about another one of our featured comics this month, Ms. Megan Gailey. Megan is, without question or argument, one of the fastest rising stars in Chicago comedy. In a few short years, Megan has established herself as one of the funniest, most consistent performers in the windy city.

Kenny’s take: Megan and I have been friends since our days studying improvised comedy together at the IO Theater in Chicago. We bonded early by making fun of our fellow improvisers that were largely theater nerds with no social skills. By the time I started to take stand up more seriously, and then eventually my primary/sole focus, Megan had already begun establishing herself on the local stand up scene. Since then, she’s never really looked back. Megan and I have gone on the road together quite a bit, and the thing I’ve noticed about her is her incredible ability to adapt to any room without really changing who she is or what she does. She’s always sassy, mean, and a little in your face while remaining sweet and charming; guising as this innocent sorority sister/soccer mom. Bob of Bob & Tom said of Megan’s act “I’ve never seen this before…keep doing what you’re doing and you’ll go far”. I have to agree. In the last year, Megan has skyrocketed, and there really is no ceiling on what she can accomplish. Did I mention she’s REALLY good looking?

Expect Wilma Flintstone if Wilma Flintstone had a vagina full of sand.

Funny video featuring Megan!

Nikki Glaser’s Feature: Mike Lebovitz (Comedians You Should Know)

Purchase Tickets Button

We’re beyond excited to be bringing in national headliner Nikki Glaser (See info on her below). However, we’re also excited for the folks opening for her as they are, as much of our show consists of, a sampling of Chicago’s finest. Mike Lebovitz is one of these features.

Mike Lebovitz has worked with Nikki before, so this was a natural fit. In fact, Mike was a requested by Nikki. For those who have been Truckload fans since the beginning, you may remember Mike as the fat, hairy jew from Comedians You Should Know.

Mike is one of my favorites because he is a dirt ball of a human being and he makes no effort to hide it. He is all about having a good time and living and let live. He’s as silly, dirty and fat as he is thoughtful, well-read and intelligent. He also happens to be a devoted father and husband. Mike’s silly, sentimental, and whiskey-soaked views on marriage, fatherhood, and life in general make Mike one of the most refreshing, energetic, and entertaining acts around. He pulls no punches, but holds silliness in the highest regard so as to remind the audience “HEY! We’re here to have fun.” His energy and affinity for fun make it impossible not to get sucked in to his world. Expect Jack Black in Orange County if that character had self awareness.

Here’s a fun video featuring Mike!

This month we’re featuring the talents of:

Will Miles (Zanies, The Improv)

Kenny’s take: Will is a hip, likable dude which, coupled with a great work ethic, unique point of view and well honed joke writing has taken him a long way in a short time. Clark Jones, the other feature this month, and Will run one of the hottest open mics in Chicago called “2 Black Dudes and an Open Microphone” which is a bit of a cult favorite among Chicago comedy junkies and has been featured in multiple chicago “scene” publications. He also consistently features at Zanies and other clubs in the midwest and has made a name for himself on the local New York scene. Will is one of my favorites because he always has fun on stage which reciprocates with his audiences. He’s laid back, because of all the weed, but he’s sharp, affable, and very funny. Hannibal Burress (30 Rock, SNL) recently named Will one of his favorite comics in Chicago and proved it by having Will feature for him at Zanies and The Improv in Chicago. Expect Carlton Banks if Carlton Banks smoked blunts, told funny jokes and had an eclectic taste in music

Clark Jones (Jokes N Notes, TBS Just For Laughs)

Kenny’s take: What makes Clark so good is that he works anywhere and everywhere in Chicago. A mostly white audience, a mostly black audience, a mostly hispanic audience; it doesn’t matter. Clark is going to do the show. As a result, he’s become one of the most versatile comics in Chicago. The guy simply does well everywhere. Clark and Will tend to go hand in hand in Chicago because not only do they run an open mic together, but they’re best friends. It’s hard to mention one without the other. I say this because they share many of the same traits that make them great. Like Will, Clark works very hard and has a lot of fun on stage. In 2010 Clark made it a goal to be featuring at Jokes N’ Notes, Chicago’s premier urban comedy club and, through a tremendous amount of hustle, he’s already accomplished it. Not only did he feature, but he’s been invited back multiple times and the club even auditioned him for the prestigious TBS Just For Laughs Chicago Festival. He made it, he killed, and the dude’s solidified himself has a staple in the Chicago comedy scene. Clark has some old school sensibilities to go with his tight shirts and stylish boots. Expect a cool, hip Red Sanford

And your headliner

Drew Frees (Comedy Central’s “Comedians To Watch”)

Kenny’s take: Drew is one of my favorite comedians. Period. The man is hilarious. Drew has an incredible goofball energy that is refreshing and fun to watch. He has so much fun you can’t help but joining in and his off beat, almost cooky style is as unique as it his hilarious. Drew is a favorite and staple of my show in Chicago as our fans request him more than anyone else. I’ve seen this guy perform more than I can count and genuinely laugh out loud from beginning to end to this day. He always surprises me with his energy and quick wit, and I love watching him tackle chunks of dark truth with silliness and slang words from the 50s. Recently named to Comedy Central’s “Comedians to Watch” list, I know big things are on the horizon for Drew. Expect Barney Fife except really really funny.

Will Miles & Clark Jones together…

As I detailed in the piece “Special Halloween “Chicago’s Finest” showcase October 29th!” which can be found below (posted Oct 19), Will Miles and Clark Jones often go hand in hand in Chicago comedy because they run a show together and are best friends. In fact, sometimes people forget they’re two separate people and not just one guy named Will N Clark. It gets annoying I’m sure, but that’s why I booked them together; they just have fun around each other. Here’s a video that I think demonstrates this very well. It’s a promo for a show that happened last year, but it showcases their chemistry and natural funniness. For more info on the coming show, read the piece mentioned earlier and check out the “coming shows/buy tickets” tab. Thanks! Looking forward to it!

And while we’re at it, here’s an old promo for their show “2 Black Dudes and and Open Mic”. If nothing else, the girl in this video is fine as hell.
